Individual Therapy

Have you been facing a significant change in mood in the past year or so? Have you been struggling with a major change in your life? Have you been dealing with too much stress at work or at home? If so, Silver Linings Counseling can help alleviate some of the pressure and sort out your concerns. Through individual counseling, you work with a therapist to address the specific concerns in your life in a safe, caring, and discreet environment. It is completely confidential.

In individual counseling, you can explore your feelings, identify behaviors, work on areas of change, and achieve your goals. A list of topics worked on during therapy, but not limited to, can be found here.

We also have therapists who also specialize in Christian counseling, PTSD, personality disorders, ADD/ADHD, and older-adult counseling.

Couples/Family Therapy

Would you like to gain a better understanding of your partner? Would you and your partner like some help strengthening the bond with your child? Would you like some help working out some unresolved issues with your family? Couples or family counseling can be useful in most situations that cause significant distress in your life.

Couples counseling (or marriage counseling) helps committed partners of all types (straight, gay, married, non-married) identify and resolve relationship conflicts. Family counseling can help you and your family members understand one another better and bring you closer together.

Play Therapy

Play therapy is a treatment method that applies the therapeutic benefits of play while helping children address and resolve their problems. It provides a safe environment for children to express themselves and their underlying conflict. Play therapy addresses issues of isolation, misbehavior, acting out, and emotional distress.

During a play therapy session, a therapist can assess a child's behaviors through play exercises. Through interactions with a therapist, children can learn to communicate their feelings, to adjust their behavior, and to develop new coping skills. Possible benefits of play therapy include:

  • Self-acceptance

  • Respect of others

  • Improved expression of emotions

  • Adjusted/responsible behaviors

  • Coping/management strategies

  • New/creative problem-solving skills

While play therapy is helpful for most children, it is especially appropriate for children ages 3 through 12 years old.

LGBTQ Affirmative

People of all walks of life can benefit from counseling. We all have periods in our lives where we face uncertainty and doubt, maybe in ourselves or maybe in others. If you are a member of the LGBT community, you may already know how valuable an attentive and affirming ear can be in your life. Whatever challenges you face, we want to help you achieve a happy and fulfilling life.

There are many topics that can come up during LGBTQ affirming counseling including:

Self-Acceptance, coming out to myself or family and friends, family/relationship/employment conflict, sexuality, sexual identity, gender identity, depression, isolation, discrimination, bullying and violence, homophobia, transphobia, substance abuse, same-sex marriage, adoption, and parenting.

We provide a safe and discreet setting to help you overcome these issues. With help from your therapist, you will explore the thoughts that come up during these difficult situations, express the emotions associated with those thoughts, and analyze the behavior that result from those thoughts and emotions. Counseling can help you reach a happy point in your life by addressing the issue at hand, analyzing the source of conflict, reviewing all possible solutions, and implementing a strategy to achieve your goals.
